Stewie the sheep at home with the dogs

One big happy family, Stewie, Malabu and Fyfe (front).

The jokes come thick and fast around Stewie the sheep but, for the most part, it's all water off a duck's back.

"Oh everyone's got a smart remark about making a stew out of Stewie or something like that," owner Susie Riley said.

"But he just does his thing and takes his place on the couch with the other guys."

The "other guys" are dogs Fyfe and Malabu and the trio can often be seen walking the streets of their hometown of Busselton in Western Australia's south west as part of their daily routine.

It's a ritual that initially turned a few heads but is now par for the course — often also attracting a gaggle of willing walking participants.

"They spend all day together and I'll put them all on a lead and go for a walk around the block," Ms Riley said.

"There's still the odd car slowing down to take a few pictures but sometimes I'll take the neighbours' kids with me and they get a kick out of taking a turn walking Stewie."

Ms Riley adopted Stewie after a previous adoptee — Cutlet the lamb — died and she was soon sold on the sheep's calm temperament.

After an initial period of settling in, each animal found its place and the unlikely trio was born and Ms Riley noticed Stewie taking on mannerisms of her two dogs, including an amplified appetite for eating.

"Stewie was more frightened of the dogs than they were of him," Ms Riley said.

"Malabu and Fyfe had some previous experience with Cutlet the lamb, so they were fine. It didn't take long for them all to gel as a family unit, and now they're pretty much inseparable."

Indeed, just like any share house comprised of three males, the day consists of hours sleeping, eating and watching the conveniently located television.

"Stewie in particular seems to like watching a bit of sport," Ms Riley said.

"But he's not too fond of cooking shows."
