Stewartry youngsters being offered free meals during school holidays

Youngsters across the Stewartry are being offered free meals during the school holidays.

The council and third sector partners are offering free events and activities, including art and crafts, play sessions, sports and games.

They are open to everyone from primary one to S6 and at each event there will be free food as part of the council’s holiday food programme.

Chairman of the communities committee, Councillor Andy Ferguson, said: “Our holiday food programme for the October holidays this year covers all of our region and has been specially designed to offer as much enjoyment to the children and young people taking part as possible.

“We are especially happy to work in partnership with all of our third sector partners this year who will be delivering their projects from the heart of their communities.”

The holiday food programme is available in all three of the Stewartry wards this week and next.

It will be on offer in the Cochran Hall at Kirkcudbright Academy today and Thursday, October 24 between 5pm and 6.30pm. The Mypod will also be in Harbour Square tomorrow and Friday, October 25 from 1pm to 2pm and on Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Castle Douglas will offer the holiday food programme from noon to 1pm on Monday, from 11am to 1pm and 5pm to 9pm on Tuesday and from noon to 1pm on Wednesday.

And Dalbeattie Town Hall will be the venue from 5pm to 9pm tomorrow and Friday, October 25. It’ll also be on offer there from 2pm to 3pm on Monday and 3.30pm to 5.15pm on Tuesday, as well as at Dalbeattie Learning Campus from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, October 25.

And the following day there will be a family Hallowe’en walk in Dalbeattie Town Wood from 11am to 1pm.
