Stewartry workmates to scale Scotland's three highest peaks in charity challenge

Two workmates are gearing up to climb Scotland’s three highest peaks for charity.

Jack Johnstone and Angus Hilsley, who work at W Johnstone and Sons in Crocketford, will attempt to scale Ben Nevis, Ben Macdui and Braeriach in the space of 24 hours next month.

In doing so they hope to raise money for Help for Heroes and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Jack, 25, from Haugh of Urr, said: “We had been doing a bit of hillwalking and as lockdown eased we came up with the idea to do something that was a bit more challenging.

“Someone had the idea of doing the Three Peaks Challenge, which is the highest in Scotland, Wales and England, but it was a lot of driving about so we decided to do the three highest in Scotland.

“Angus used to be in the army but was medically discharged because of his knees so is doing it for Help For Heroes. I play rugby with Dumfries Saints and have been following the Doddie Weir campaign so I’m doing it for My Name’5 Doddie.

“We’re doing a bit more for practice and my brother is going to do the driving so we can have a bit more rest.”

Jack and Angus, who is 28 and lives in Castle Douglas, will attempt the challenge on August 22.

The combined ascent is nearly 4000m, almost 1000m more than the Three Peaks Challenge.

They can be sponsored at www.justgiving.com/team/Scotlands3peaks.
