Stewartry Sirens draw 7-7 with league leaders Heriots Blues

Stewartry Sirens hosted league leaders Heriots Blues at a busy Greenlaw on Sunday.

The visitors were soon into the Sirens 22 but a strong defence kept them at bay. Thirteen minutes in and the Sirens’ Sloan took off on a mazy run from her own half only to be stopped in the corner just short of the try line.

The game opened up with both teams in attacking mood and it was the Sirens that found the gap for Chloe Johnstone to charge in between the posts in 27 minutes, Lisa Ritchie adding the points.

The Sirens continued to press the Heriots line and Manson was next to get stopped just short.

The second half started with Heriots pushing forward before a Sirens breakout saw them win a penalty kick which was missed.

Four minutes later and Heriots at last broke through the Sirens defence for a score at the posts. The conversion was good and it was game on for the last 25 minutes.

Stewartry were held up over the try line twice and Tyeson was knocked into touch as she tried to go over in the corner.

It looked like the Sirens would lose the game at the very end when Heriots won a kickable penalty but it did not reach the target and the game finished 7-7 – a credit to both teams who had played some entertaining rugby.

The Sirens are now four league games unbeaten and are away to Oban Lorne on Sunday.
