The sewing community is making scrubs bags for care homes and care workers across the Stewartry.
Around 60 people have joined the Castle Douglas cluster of the NHS D&G For The Love of Scrubs Group and so far nearly 400 of their bags have been handed out.
Doreen Johnston is the regional co-ordinator in Dumfries and liaises with hospitals and care homes.
The Castle Douglas cluster is being co-ordinated by Gill Gallacher who also runs the Coronavirus Community Help Castle Douglas Facebook page.
She said: “Our youngest, Hannah, is 13 and we have an experienced octogenarian also part of our wonderful group. Ladies from the Threave Quilters joined in and have also provided us with some beautiful home made bags.
“The amazing sewing bees of CD have sewn nearly 400 bags and we have already distributed bags to Carlingwark House, Castle Douglas Hospital, Stewartry dstrict nurses, Bothwell House, Fleet Valley Care Home, Senwick Care Home and Barlochan. "
“Our efforts have now turned toward making pyjamas, nighties and scrubs as well as NHS scrubs for those key workers in the local hospitals. Hearts have also been knitted and crocheted and are given to families who’s loved ones are sick.”
Donations have come from Gowans, Threave Home Hardware, Wilko and local residents. The Fullarton Theatre donated material and wardrobe staff Ann and Carol have been making bags.
And the region wide group received a £1,200 boost from Rotary clubs across Dumfries and Galloway.
