Stewartry RFC come down to earth with heavy 59-0 defeat to Allan Glens in Tennent's West Division One

After a very good start to the season, Stewartry came down to earth with a bit of a bump on Saturday with a 59-0 defeat away at Bishopbriggs.

Allan Glens proved to be at full strength on the day with a set of backs who picked good lines and had the pace out wide to run in nine tries and only two were not converted.

Glens defence was well organised and their tackling stopped Stewartry making many line breaks.

Stewartry battled hard with a number of regulars missing with injuries which upset the Blacks usual rhythm. All four replacements were needed and flanker replacement Ben Spence proved an inspiration to those around him after he came on to a rejigged scrum.

Stewartry stuck to their task for little reward, competing for large parts of the game but at the end of the day they were beaten by the better team who are favourites for the league.

Stewartry have a week off to lick their wounds with this week’s league opponents Irvine involved in the quarter-final of the West Shield at home to Strathaven.

Stewartry are away to Garnock on Saturday, October 26. The next home game will be against Kilmarnock on Saturday, November 16.

Stewartry squad: C Mosey, J Muir, J Dawson, Danny Boyd, S Milligan, R Austin, J Picken, M McCulloch, K McGuire, I McMorran, D Maxwell, S McCulloch, Doug Boyd, M Taylor, B Johnstone, C McGuire, B Spence, B Moratti, A Picken.
