Stewartry residents encouraged to sign up for free cookery classes in Kirkcudbright

Free cookery classes are being offered in the Stewartry.

Alcohol and Drugs Support South West Scotland and the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership project have joined forces to offer the monthly sessions.

Everyone is welcome to sign up for the classes which will be run by Nick Morris of the Station House Cookery School in Kirkcudbright on the last Wednesday of every month up until May.

ADS Cooking in the community project worker, Fiona Limbrey, said: “It is a full day course teaching people to cook using local produce – or as local as possible. They learn new skills and it is about cooking on a budget.

“It is aimed at vulnerable adults but is open to everyone and transport can be provided as social isolation is a major issue in rural communities.”

The classes have been supported by funding from Awards For All and the council’s tackling poverty through participatory budgeting fund.

The sessions run from 9.30am until mid afternoon with demonstrations in the morning before budding chefs are given the chance to cook for themselves in the afternoon.

Anyone looking to sign up can do so by calling Fiona on 07395 788 645 or e-mailing flimbrey@adssws.co.uk.

A short questionnaire on dietary requirements and allergies will need to be filled in.
