Stewartry rally crew Jock Armstrong and Kirsty Riddick take second place on Grampian Forest Rally

Jock Armstrong and Kirsty Riddick took second place in the Grampian Forest Rally on Saturday.

The Castle Douglas driver was joined by his old co-driver from Haugh of Urr who took the place of Cammy Fair in the double Scottish champ’s Subaru Impreza.

The pair were 27 seconds behind winners Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton who clinched their third KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship title.

Armstrong said: “It was a good run and nice to be able to challenge Euan. Kirsty did a great job standing in for Cammy.

“There are some fantastic stages up here, they’re some of the best to rally on anywhere and it’s so easy on the car as well so we thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Dalbeattie’s Iain Wilson took a third successive Scottish Two-Wheel Drive Championship success in his Ford Escort Mk2, co-driven by Chris Williams.

They saw off fierce competition and overcame a second stage puncture to finish 10th overall. Their rivals included the Escort Mk2 of Dumfries’ Mark McCulloch, who was forced to retire from the lead on the penultimate
stage.

Wilson said: “It was a really great day. We had a bit of trouble with a puncture this morning but we didn’t lose too much time.

“I don’t think we’d have caught Mark so I feel for him but these things happen. Next is my local event so we’ve got to try and keep doing what we’re doing and try to sew up the championship.”

There was also success for Thornhill’s Harry Marchbank who was on the notes in the Mitsubishi Evo 9 of Thomas Gray. They finished sixth overall, taking the Albyn Garage SRC Challengers win in the process.

It was their third win of the season and puts them in good shape ahead of next month’s Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally in Dalbeattie.

There was class one success for Castle Douglas’ Scott Peacock and Haugh of Urr’s Robin Neil who took victory in their MG ZR.
