Stewartry primary pupils enjoy mini tag rugby tournament

Youngsters from three Stewartry primary schools enjoyed a mini-tag rugby tournament.

The P6/7 classes from the Hardgate, Lochrutton and Springholm Primary partnership took part in the event held with Stewartry Rugby Club.

The day was organised by Stewartry Sirens captain Claire Manson and vice-captain Clare Dooley, who is also a teacher at Springholm Primary. They ran a coaching session and a mini-tag tournament with teams mixed from the three schools.

The teams were named after different rugby countries with Scotland taking victory.

Claire and Clare also had help from Matthew Hind and Amy Peacock, who both play for the Stewartry RFC in the respective age group. They helped with the coaching sessions and refereed the tag rugby games.

P7 pupil Rachel said: “It was really fun and even though we didn’t all win, it was a great opportunity to get to know team-mates from the other schools.”

P6 pupil Euan said: “My favourite game was chain tig because I just stood still and no one noticed me!”
