Stewartry people find their own way to pay tribute on Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday was rather different this year with the coronavirus pandemic meaning there were no parades.

People were encouraged to pay their respects in their own way, including holding a two-minute silence on their doorstep and putting poppies in their windows.

And Jennifer Lawrence created a stunning artwork out of recycled materials from plastic bottles to tin cans.

She said: “I was making poppies during lockdown and they started off at my house, then I moved them to the shop but it kept getting bigger and bigger.

“Everything is recycled. The poppies are made out of plastic bottles that people in the village dropped off for me.

“The chicken wire that has been used is all recycled and the woman is wearing my old Army uniform.

“Her skirt is made out of something that someone was going to put in a skip and the tins at the front spelling out Lest We Forget are old baked bean tins.”
