Stewartry high streets to witness end of an era as retail business goes up for sale after 40 years

The end of an era is approaching in high streets across the Stewartry.

Amanda McQueen is planning to retire and sell her Supersave and Gifts and Home retail business which she set up more than 40 years ago with a shop in Dalbeattie.

Since then, further branches have been opened in Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.

Amanda said: “I turn 66 this year and want to spend more time with my grandchildren and my partner.

“The rumour mill has started that we are closing but we are not. I will still run it if nobody buys it. It would be a huge loss to the high street if it wasn’t there.”

The shops offer a variety of home and hardware, gifts, toys, greeting cards and stationary.

The sale is being handled by Smith and Clough Business Associates and spokesman Jonathan Clough said: “I am delighted to have been instructed to handle the sale of this long established and much loved local institution.“
