Stewartry farming couple to celebrate diamond wedding anniversary on June 2

A Stewartry farming couple will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on Tuesday.

David and Fanny Yates married at Borgue Church on June 2, 1960, with their reception at the Cally Palace in Gatehouse before a honeymoon in Switzerland.

Their original home farm was Toddilmuir at Lochmaben before they moved to East Logan at Castle Douglas in 1970. They bought Meikle Firthhead in 1990 and still live there at The Knowe Cottage.

Their sons, David and Brian, are also well known in local farming circles with David farming Meikle Firthhead and Brian farming East Logan.

David and Fanny also have five grand children and three great grandchildren but the coronavirus lockdown means they won’t be able to mark the occasion in style.

Granddaughter Linda Brown said: “We had been planning celebrations when all this started so we’re not going to be able to do anything any more.

“They are in the vulnerable category so I think we’ll be seeing them from the patio through the window!”
