Stewartry bar celebrates being named CAMRA's pub of the year

A Stewartry bar is raising a glass to a prestigious win.

The Laurie Arms in Haugh of Urr was named one of the area winners in the Dumfries and Stewartry branch of the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) pub of the year competition.

The pub has been run by Sandra Yates since 2006 and boasts a good contingent of CAMRA members thanks to the quality real ales.

It was also a regular pick-up and stop-off point on bus trips organised by the local sub-branch.

Sandra recently received the Stewartry area award from Alan Gass of the local CAMRA sub-branch at one of the Laurie Arms’ popular quiz nights.

Alan described the Laurie as a great community pub, with excellent food, wonderful staff, brilliant customers and first-class real ales.

He added that Sandra and her family worked tirelessly during the pandemic to create garden seating areas and turned to Facebook to hold monthly quiz nights despite the pub being closed.
