Stewarton drivers face weeks of disruption as road closes

Motorists in Stewarton face weeks of disruption as part of a £300,000 Scottish Water project.

Clerkland Bridge in High Street will be closed to vehicles for the duration of the works from Monday, June 24 for about 10 weeks.

It’s due to Scottish Water upgrading part of the water mains network in order to reduce the risk of bursts and improve security of supply to thousands of customers.

The £300,000 investment will involve the installation of a 50-metre-long stretch of new water main under the Clerkland Burn, which will replace an existing main nearby. The new pipe will be installed by micro-tunnelling under the burn.

And while the bridge will be closed to vehicles, pedestrian access will be maintained.

Diversion signs will be in place for road users to follow.

There will also be parking restrictions on Old Mill View, Meikle Court, Robertland Rigg, Cutstraw Road and Cutsburn Brae to help manage traffic flow to and from Nether Robertland Primary School and Stewarton Academy.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation at the Cutstraw Road/Cutsburn Brae roundabout.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs manager, said: “We have liaised with the Ayrshire Roads Alliance when planning the road traffic management and have done all we can to minimise disruption during this work.

“We will do everything possible to complete as much of the work as we can before the end of the school summer holidays.

“We thank affected road users in advance for their patience and co-operation during the work, which will be carried out for Scottish Water by contractors Mackenzie.”
