1. His full name is John Stewart Hagestad III.
2. He was born in Newport Beach, California on April 10, 1991.
3. He is six feet five inches tall.
4. His father, John Hagestad, said he took Stewart golfing for the first time when he was about four years old.
5. He has two brothers, George and Richard, and one sister, Leigh. Richard played football at the University of Southern California while George played on the water polo team at Stanford University.
6. Hagestad attended the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina after high school.
7. In 2008, he qualified for the US Amateur. Other high school highlights included finishing T5th at the Callaway Junior World Championship and winning the 2009 Scott Robertson Memorial at the Roanoke Country Club.
8. Hagestad played his college golf at the University of Southern California and graduated in 2013 with a degree in business administration.
9. Hagestad won the 2016 US Mid-Amateur at Stonewall, in Elverson, Pennsylvania, earning a spot at the 2017 Masters Tournament. He later became the first US Mid-Amateur champion qualifier to make the cut at the Masters, finishing T36th and claiming Low Amateur honors.
10. Before winning his first US Mid-Amateur, he was working at a private equity firm in New York City and was training on an indoor simulator.
11. He has won the US Mid-Amateur three times overall (2016, 2021, 2023) as part of nine notable amateur wins. His most recent success was the 2024 Azalea Invitational.
12. Hagestad teamed up with Emilia Migliaccio, Brandon Wu, and Rose Zhang to win the mixed team gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games.
13. Through the 2025 championship, Hagestad has played in 16 US Amateurs. His best run arrived in 2022 when he battled through to the quarter-finals of match play before losing to eventual champion, Sam Bennett.
