Stewart Donald reveals what it will take for Elliot Embleton to sign a new deal at Sunderland

Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has provided an update on the future of young Black Cats star Elliot Embleton.

Embleton is considered one of the finest talents the Black Cats' academy has produced in recent years but his contract at the club is set to expire.

The 20-year-old, who has represented England at every youth level up to under-20s, impressed on loan at Grimsby Town last season and looked set to play a major part for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland manager Jack Ross is known to be a big fan of Embleton and hoped that alongside fellow returning loanee, Ethan Robson, he would play a part in Sunderland's bid for promotion from League One during the 2019/20 campaign.

The Black Cats have offered Embleton a new contract but he wants assurances over his game-time next season before committing his future.

And Donald has offered an update on Embleton's contract talks, as well as the futures of fellow youngsters Benji Kimpioka, Robson and Denver Hume.

"Elliot (Embleton) wants assurances he will play and has been offered a two-year deal," Donald revealed at a talk-in for Sunderland fans on Saturday night.

"Benji ,we want to tie down. Jack has told me he wants a 20 man squad with youngsters around it. Ethan(Robson) and Denver (Hume) are included in that."
