Stevie Wonder will perform one of his final shows in Dublin ahead of hiatus for kidney transplant

Stevie Wonder has announced he will take a break from music as he undergoes a kidney transplant.

The legendary American singer is set to perform in Dublin next week in one of his final shows ahead of the hiatus.

Wonder, 69, is bringing his Stevie Wonder Song Party tour to the 3Arena on Tuesday for his first Irish show in nine years.

The musical icon has amassed a staggering 32 Number One singles and worldwide sales of over 100 million units over five decades in a storied career.

And the American superstar announced today that he will take a break from performing ahead of the operation in September.

Wonder wowed his UK fans last night as he delivered a setlist including much of his extensive back catalogue at a sold-out Hyde Park in London.

Shortly after a stunning performance of his classic hit Superstition, the musician revealed that  he will be stepping away from the spotlight.

He told the crowd: “I’m going to be doing three shows then taking a break.

“I’m having surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant at the end of September this year. I came here to give you my love and to thank you for yours.

“You ain’t gotta hear no rumours about us, I’m good.”

The Dublin show kicks off at 8pm sharp, with a limited number of tickets from €99.50 including booking fee available now from Ticketmaster.
