Stevie Wonder has announced he will take a break from shows as he undergoes a kidney transplant later this year.
The legendary singer told crowds at Hyde Park during his headline show at BST Festival about his medical condition, after closing his set with “Superstition”.
The 69-year-old says he has found a donor and will perform three more shows before the operation in September.
“I’m all good, I’m all good,” he said, to cheers and applause from the audience.
He explained that he had wanted to tell people himself to avoid “rumours” spreading about his health.
“I’m having surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant at the end of September, this year. I came here to give you my love and to thank you for yours. You ain’t gotta hear no rumours about us, I’m good,” he said.
“I love you and God bless you.”
BST Festival continues today (7 July) with a headline performance by Barbra Streisand.
