Piers Morgan has revealed he recruited Stevie Wonder to propose to his wife, Celia Walden, on his behalf.
The Good Morning Britain presenter was wishing his nine-year-old daughter Elise a happy birthday when he told the story.
As Wonder’s “Happy Birthday” played out, Morgan said to Elise, who was watching from home: “This is Stevie, who I actually got to do a video proposal to your mother when I proposed to her. True story.”
Morgan continued: “I bumped into him in a restaurant in LA, and I got him to do a video to Celia telling her to marry me, and because I think she loves Stevie Wonder, I think that tipped her over the edge.”
Morgan and Walden, who is a journalist and novelist, have been married since 2010. They have one daughter together, Elise. Morgan also has three children from his previous marriage to Marion Shalloe: Albert, Spencer and Stanley.
Last month, Wonder shared an update on his health after having undergone a kidney transplant in 2019.
The singer, who is 70, said: “I feel like I’m about 40 right now and I just thank everyone for the prayers and the love.”
The artist also urged people not to trust “rumours” when it comes to his health, adding: “If I’m feeling some kind of way, I’ll let you know. We don’t want to have misinformation. I am alive and well.”
