Stevie May wanted by Ross County as Aberdeen striker at centre of five-way loan tussle

Stevie May is edging closer to the Aberdeen exit door – with Ross County the latest side to join the chase.

Dons manager Derek McInnes confirmed at the weekend that he is prepared to let the striker go out on-loan.

McInnes then added he could let May leave permanently if the player makes it clear he wants to leave Pittodrie.

St Johnstone, St Mirren, Dundee and Dundee United are all interested, while newly-promoted Ross County have also shown their hand.

The 26-year-old if he does leave Aberdeen would prefer to cut ties.

McInnes paid £400,000 to sign him from Preston two seasons ago but the former Scotland striker has struggled to find his best form at Aberdeen.

He scored just three goals for the Dons last season and has now dropped behind Sam Cosgrove and summer signing Curtis Main in the pecking order.

Former club, St Johnstone, remain in pole position to land May but it would all depend if the McDiarmid Park board give Tommy Wright the money to get any deal over the line.

Ross County have also enquired and would also be willing to sign the former Sheffield Wednesday frontman on-loan or permanently.

St Mirren have also spoken to Aberdeen but financially their best bet would be a loan.

Dundee are also keen but will need to up the ante on the financial side, while Dundee United could do a deal but Robbie Neilson would need to get a player off the wage bill first.
