Stevie May transfer chase heats up as St Mirren target move for Aberdeen striker

St Mirren are in a race for Aberdeen striker Stevie May .

The 26-year-old could leave Pittodrie after Reds manager Derek McInnes signed a raft of attacking options during this summer’s transfer window.

May has been pushed down the Aberdeen pecking order with the likes of James Wilson clinching a permanent deal and Curtis Main arriving to join Sam Cosgrove.

Having spent two years in the Granite City after moving from Preston North End in the summer of 2017, the former St Johnstone and Sheffield Wednesday ace could be on his way out with the Premiership club interested.

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin is looking to build his squad after taking over from Oran Kearney and Record Sport understands they are among the clubs who would be keen on May.

Meanwhile, Ryan Hedges admits Aberdeen's grand plans for the future sold him on a move to Pittdorie.

Hedges said: “I had other offers in England but when I came up to Aberdeen the manager and Russ Richardson sold things to me.

“They showed me the plans for the new stadium and spoke about Europe and the club’s track record.

“It’s something I want to be part of. I want to play in Europe and finals and challenge for the title.”
