Stevie May to Dundee as Dens Park club jump to front of queue for Aberdeen striker

Dundee have moved into pole position in the fight to land Aberdeen striker Stevie May.

The Championship club are trying to close a deal that would see the 26-year-old move to Dens Park on a permanent basis.

Former club St Johnstone had looked to be in the box seat however McDiarmid Park gaffer Tommy Wright is still waiting for his chairman Steve Brown to sanction a deal.

Dundee manager James McPake has admitted he is making good progress with a couple of targets.

He said: “We’re getting closer and closer to a couple.

“Certainly by the end of the week we are hopeful, but that’s not to say if two come in, three come in, we’ll stop at the end of
the week.

Dundee have announced James McPake as the clubs new manager (SNS Group)

“We’ll keep going and if we don’t get the two or three come the end of the week, we’ll still keep going, it’s in progress.

“We’re happy with who we’ve got but we certainly know that we need to add a few to the squad and we’re working hard to get them.”

Rivals Dundee United were also interested but have cooled their interest since they landed Lawrence Shankland.

Premiership side Ross County have also made a move but that looks too rich for them while
St Mirren are also keen but that would be a loan.
