Stevie May is set to return to St Johnstone after agreeing to terminate his contract with Aberdeen.
The 26-year-old striker has reached an arrangement that will see him walk away from the last two years of his Pittodrie deal.
And May will sign a three-year contract to be reunited with old gaffer Tommy Wright at McDiarmid Park when everything is finalised with the Dons.
The Perth manager has beaten off competition from a string of clubs, including Kilmarnock, Dundee, Ross County and St Mirren, to land his man.
Wright’s been desperate to add another striker to replace Tony Watt who left for CSKA Sofia in May.
And it gives former Scotland star May the opportunity to get back on track after an indifferent spell with the Dons since making a £400,000 switch from Preston in 2017.
He now has the chance to kickstart his career with his boyhood heroes where he enjoyed his most successful spell and won the Scottish Cup in 2014.

It’s a big boost for Saints after crashing out of the Betfred Cup with a 2-1 defeat to Ross County last Sunday.
Saints winger Matty Kennedy doesn’t need to have seen May play live to know his homecoming would give everybody a lift in Perth.
He said: “I have never seen May play or been in the same league as him.
“I’ve watched a few clips of him on social media and he has scored so many goals for St Johnstone. This might be his home and where he plays his best football.
“I know Stevie is not a big massive targetman but he seems to score a lot of headers and my game is all about getting crosses into the box.
“It would be ideal for somebody like me if we were to bring a player like that in. He would be a good addition to the squad.
“He is a good player and he would bring a lot to the side.
“A new addition would bring some positivity to the changing room.”
While Estonia defender Madis Vihmann is set to join May through the door on-loan from Flora.
The 23-year-old had a spell at Norwegian outfit Stabaek last season but caught Wright’s eye on international duty against Northern Ireland in March.
It’s understood the towering centre half, who has earned five caps, is eager to make the move to Scotland.
With defensive options limited after the departure of skipper Joe Shaughnessy and Liam Gordon suffering an elbow injury, Wright is keen to get the Vihmann deal over the line.
