Stevie Mallan's Hibs exit confirmed as midfielder returns to Turkey on two-year deal

Stevie Mallan has left Hibs to return to Yeni Malatyaspor on a two-year deal.

The midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at the Turkish club before returning to Easter Road for pre-season training.

However, he wasn’t in Jack Ross ’ first team plans so has taken the chance to head back overseas in order to get regular first team football.

Mallan made 95 appearances in total for the Hibees since signing from Barsnley three years ago for an undisclosed fee.

He managed 20 goals in that time, many coming from direct free kicks or shots from distance.

But he fell down the pecking order as more midfielders arrived and the ex-St Mirren man has found it difficult to break into the side ahead of the likes of Alex Gogic, Joe Newell and Melker Hallberg.

Mallan played 17 times for Malatyaspor last season, scoring twice and providing one assist.

He’ll hope to build on those numbers after committing to play the next two years of his career in the Turkish Super Lig.

Mallan had hinted at his exit over the weekend on social media, sharing a snap of himself at the airport with the captain “let’s go.”

HIs departure could allow Ross extra room in his budget to strengthen as Hibs prepare to being their Europa Conference League campaign against Santa Coloma of Andorra next week.
