Steven Spielberg to turn viral Reddit story The Spire in the Woods into horror film

Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Partners production is turning Reddit‘s viral ghost story The Spire in the Woods into a feature-length film.

Amblin has teamed up with Roy Lee (It) and Jon Berg (Justice League), who are producing through Vertigo Entertainment, after acquiring the rights to Tony Lunedi’s The Spire in the Woods, a series of Reddit posts written in 2013, that were later collected into a book.

The film will be retitled The Bells and will centre on a teenage boy searching for answers to his friend’s suicide, only to find himself drawn in by the same alluring but deadly ghost story.

Lee founded Vertigo in 2002. Alongside producing this year’s It: Chapter 2, his credits also include US remakes of The Ring, Dark Water, and The Grudge

Spielberg is executive producing both Men in Black International and the film adaptation of Cats. He’s also directing his own updated remake of West Side Story, which is set to film his summer.
