Steven Naismith 'close' to permanent Hearts deal as striker set to snub MLS

Steven Naismith is on the verge of agreeing a permanent deal at Hearts - according to a report.

The Norwich City striker has been on loan at Tynecastle since January 2018 and his contract at Carrow will expire at the end of the season.

His time in England is almost certain to be over and Craig Levein has been desperate to land him on a full-time basis.

Naismith had the option of a move across the pond to the MLS but is set to pen a long-term deal at Tynecastle, reports The Express .

The 32-year-old is recovering from a knee cartilage operation and may not feature again this season but the development still comes as a major boost for the Jambos.

Naismith is prepared to take a hit on his earnings in order to secure regular first-team football and he still harbours ambitions of being a regular for Scotland.

It's also reported Levein is keen to snap up Livingston skipper Craig Halkett.

The centre-back is also out of contract at the end of the season following an outstanding campaign for Gary Holt's side.
