Steven N'Zonzi hands Arsenal surprising boost over Nicolas Pepe deal

France and Roma midfielder Steven N'Zonzi has taken to his official Facebook page to applaud the news that Nicolas Pepe is to join Arsenal this summer.

Having been heavily-linked to the Gunners himself in previous seasons, the former Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Sevilla enforcer clearly feels a connection with the north London.

Following his side's defeat to Lyon in the Emirates Cup, Unai Emery confirmed that he wanted his club to sign players in three key positions - centre-back, midfield and out wide.

In William Saliba and Dani Ceballos, the Spaniard has been provided with players for the former two roles, albeit with the defender remaining at Saint-Etienne for a further season while the creative midfielder is only on loan from Real Madrid.

Pepe would complete the shopping list for Emery, who worked with N'Zonzi at Sevilla.

The France international won the Europa League under the Arsenal head coach in 2016 before Paris Saint-Germain came in for his manager.

In a post on his official Facebook page, N'Zonzi posted an image of Pepe in an Arsenal shirt, tagging the player in the update with two clapping hand emojis.

Last season, the Ivorian winger scored 22 goals in Ligue 1 for Lille while setting up 11 assists.

He has been tipped to upgrade Arsenal's previously under-powered right flank and provide the Gunners with the sort of goal threat from out wide that they have lacked ever since the decline and sale of Alexis Sanchez.

N'Zonzi played 30 league games for Roma across the 2018/19 campaign as the Serie A side finished sixth place.

Prior to the signing of Lucas Torreira last summer, the Frenchman was identified as one player who the Gunners should sign to add more steel to their midfield.
