Hotline callers can’t make up their mind if it’s panto season or April Fools but either way some of them reckon all the talk about Steven Gerrard going to recently rich Newcastle United is a joke.
The Rangers boss has been part of the conversation as the Geordies prepare to go big, but not everyone is convinced about Record Sports’ Barry Ferguson claiming the Liverpool legend would turn it down.
John Robertson emailed: “Can someone remind Record Sport columnist Barry Ferguson that it’s the middle of October and not April 1.
“Gerrard to turn down Newcastle? Barry, before you write this stuff can you check the CVs of other managers before you make a fool of yourself.”
Jim McClean, Rothesay, said: “The pantomime season has started early. Who would employ a manager from our Mickey Mouse league who has won one tainted trophy in four years? Gerrard for Newcastle or Liverpool? don’t make me laugh.”
Hibs boss Jack Ross hit out at trolls abusing Ryan Porteous after his Gers red card.
But Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “So Ross is unhappy at the abuse Porteous has taken after yet another assault on a Rangers player
“Is this the same Porteous who happily autographed a canvas picture of himself standing sneering over Morelos after one of his now customary challenges against a Rangers player?
“Sorry Jack, but until Porteous is able to control his aggression against Rangers for reasons only known to the player himself he will get zero sympathy from many.”

A regular caller was in the firing line.
Andrew Mathieson, via email, said: Can I suggest that your regular comedian Gordon Ashley from Ayr applies for the next series of Mastermind.
“Specialist subject, Glasgow Rangers Football Club.
“He will be an absolute shoo-in for the title, unlike his second favourite Glasgow football club.”
Jim Mackenzie, East Kilbride, said: “Is Gordon Ashley a Celtic fan? He only ever talks about Rangers. Nothing to say about the shambles that us your own club Gordon? Your obsession with all things Rangers is hilarious.”
Meanwhile Gordon has an ally as Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “Rangers may have stopped the ten but it is obvious their fans will never get over the fact they failed to stop the double 9 in a row which was the real goal.
“It was won within the rules and in front of fans like major football trophies are supposed to be won, unlike their no fans training game trophy which will always be debated whether it should have been played at all.”
Scotland picked up two wins over the break but not everyone got to see it.
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “The SFA need to get a grip with the TV broadcasters and show people in Scotland the most important games in our World Cup group, not the meaningless England games on our Scottish council telly.
“Thank god for the radio at the weekend. Put the Moldova game on for free like our English counterparts who enjoy matches with no subscription.”
Finally, Ross County’s investigation in to racism cleared their fans.
But Derek Adese, Dundee, said: “Ross County took witness statements from 20 other County supporters in the vicinity of the alleged racist abuse.
“I would take a bet that they were more than likely friends or at least known to one another, so to use these guys as impartial witnesses wouldn’t even happen in Columbo or Jessica Fletcher.
“Let’s put this one down to experience and hope it was a one off. By the way, I’m a Scottish Nigerian Dundonian, so I know all about racism in 60s.”
