Steven Gerrard welcomes Stephen Darby to Rangers training as ex-Liverpool defender's MND battle continues

Stephen Darby attended Rangers training at the Hummel Training Centre as he continued his fundraising efforts for MND charities.

The ex-Liverpool, Bradford and Bolton defender was diagnosed with the terminal illness in 2018 and has been raising funds since.

The debilitating condition is also being suffered by Ibrox legend Fernando Ricksen and the whole Rangers squad donned t-shirts in support of Darby.

And Steven Gerrard was thrilled to have him in Glasgow as he posted on Instagram to say: "Great to see my ex team-mate Stephen Darby today. Thanks for paying us a visit up in Glasgow. I would like to wish him and all the walkers thebest at the end of September for Steps4Stephen.

"Let's all get behind the Darby Rimmer MND foundation. Check out www.redwoodevents.co.uk."

Darby, who is married to England women's captain Steph Houghton, set up the foundation to support other families and research a cure.

He was forced to retire from football in September 2018 after being diagnosed after just three games for Bolton.

His old clubs Liverpool and Bradford played out a friendly in his honour during pre-season which included Ibrox winger Ryan Kent.

Ex-Rangers star Ricksen has been battling MND since 2013 and he's been in a hospice since last year.
