Steven Gerrard trolled by Chelsea ahead of Liverpool showdown

Chelsea have poked fun at Steven Gerrard ahead of their clash with Liverpool.

The Reds sit on the summit of the Premier League and can take another step towards their first top-flight title since 1990 with a win over Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Under Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool came within touching distance of the Premier League crown five years ago.

The Anfield side had embarked on an 11-game winning streak before they faced Chelsea .

But Gerrard infamously slipped at a crucial moment to allow Demba Ba to race in on goal before coolly slotting home.

Willian added a second in stoppage time to end Liverpool’s hopes as Manchester City ran out title winners, with Rodgers’ side finishing runners-up.

The wounds remain sore for the Anfield giants but they can heal them this season with EPL glory.

However, they must beat Chelsea today and the Blues have ratcheted up the mind games with a tweet trolling Gerrard.

Posting a video of the now Rangers boss’ slip, they added the line, "Did someone say Liverpool v Chelsea" with a winking emoji.

Liverpool can go five points clear with victory at Anfield this afternoon if second-placed City, as they were in 2014, fail to beat Crystal Palace in the earlier kick-off.
