Steven Gerrard to Tottenham dismissed by Rangers legend Barry Ferguson as he insists no amount could tempt boss from Ibrox

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson insists not even £200k per week could tempt Steven Gerrard away from Ibrox this summer.

Following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, the 40-year-old has been installed as one of the favourites for the Spurs job.

Gerrard has impressed with Rangers, lifting the Premiership title this season, and can still make it a double with the Scottish Cup.

But Ferguson is adamant the Ibrox gaffer is going nowhere this summer.

He said on Go Radio: "I personally think he'll stay another season or two.

"He won the league this season and has a real opportunity of winning the double, they're in the quarter-finals.

"They've still got to be respectful, they've still got St Johnstone and then obviously the semi-final and final.

"I think he knows he needs to get a few trophies in the bag, get that experience of winning as a manager.

"Then I think his time will come, there's no doubt. He's impressed me as a manager, he's got better every season.

"The way he comes across in the media I think is first class, very honest when he gets interviewed.

"So for me he stays another couple of seasons."

Ferguson was then asked what would happen if Daniel Levy dangled a £200k per week pay packet in front of the Rangers boss.

But the Rangers icon insisted: "No, I still think he'll stay."

Fellow panelist Mark Guidi raised the issue of a managerial merry-go-round which would see Brendan Rodgers go to Spurs and a vacancy at Leicester, insisting the Rangers manager is a better option than Eddie Howe for the Foxes.

And while Ferguson feels that Gerrard will stay, he's in agreement when it comes to comparisons with the former Bournemouth boss.

He said: "The reason why I think he'll stay is he's got Champions League opportunity, that's the elite of football for me.

"I know he needs to get out the qualifiers but just look at this record in Europe, I've been really impressed with Rangers' record in Europe, Steven Gerrard 's record in Europe.

"It's been brilliant as a manager, so that's why I think he'll be here next season even if clubs come calling.

"But I'm in agreement with Mark when it comes to Eddie Howe and Steven Gerrard.

"Steven Gerrard all day long. With the pressures he's been under up here? This season he was under severe pressure.

"I think he put himself under pressure: he knew he had to deliver.

"And that's why I've been so impressed this season."
