Russell Martin is set to be appointed the new manager of Leicester City, possibly paving the way for Steven Gerrard to return to Rangers, it is claimed.
The hunt for a new boss was reported to have reached a final shortlist of two - former manager Gerrard and ex-player Martin.
While Gerrard had many backers within the Ibrox hierarchy, the ex-Scotland international was also very much thought to be in the mix.
However, the Daily Mail is now reporting the 39-year-old will become the new Foxes boss.
Its is claimed talks between Leicester and the former Swansea and Southampton manager have been rumbling on this week and a deal is to be concluded in the coming days, Martin replacing Ruud van Nistelrooy in the hotseat.

It would appear then that the path is opening up for Gerrard to sensationally be appointed at Rangers for a second spell.
It had been reported the Liverpool and England hero was set for talks with Gers chiefs over the next couple of days. With Martin set to be ruled out, those discussions could become more straightforward.
Bookies had stopped taking bets on a Gerrard Light Blues return and that followed an announcement that he had pulled out of a charity match in France next week for "professional reasons."
That chimed with reports Gers chiefs were looking to make a decision and an appointment by the end of this week.
This latest development is another potential sign Gerrard could be heading back to Glasgow almost four years after walking out on the club to take the Aston Villa job.
