Steven Gerrard to Everton rubbished as Rangers hero Ally McCoist backs himself over Ibrox boss

Ally McCoist insists there's more chance he'll become new Everton boss than Steven Gerrard.

The Ibrox gaffer was linked with a shock switch to his old Merseyside rivals after Carlo Ancelotti made a sudden return to Real Madrid.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard was reportedly being considered by Goodison Park bosses despite his lifelong ties to Anfield.

But Rangers legend McCoist laughed off the prospect on Thursday morning in his own inimitable style.

He told talkSPORT: "He's got Champions League football to look forward to! He's looking to get two in a row!

"We've just for the second year in a row -and we've not had any supporters in all season - we've just sold 40,000 season tickets. The club's going through the roof!

"He's on board, he's going into his fourth season having won the championship in his third, he's got a board that back him, he's doing ever so well.

"Come on guys, let's be realistic about this. There's a better chance of me being the Everton manager than Steven Gerrard!"
