Steven Gerrard tipped to stay at Rangers for years to come as Alan Hutton reads between the transfer lines

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes Steven Gerrard has no plans to move on from Ibrox any time soon.

And he claims that's evident in the club's January business.

Gerrard sealed the pre-contract signings of defender Jack Simpson and Aberdeen winger Scott Wright last week before bringing both deals forward by six months on Deadline Day.

And with the dust still settling on that manic last day of the window the club then announced on Tuesday that Simpson's Bournemouth team-mate Nnamdi Ofoborh would be joining him in the summer.

Hutton is delighted with those deals - and he reckons that kind of business isn't the mark of a manager preparing to jump ship.

He told Football Pass : "It's the million-dollar question. He's building something and he's been great for the last few seasons.

"Now we're seeing what he wanted to build.

"He's not only happy with this team, though - he's still looking to sign players and build for the future, which I like.

"It tells me that he wants to stay for the next few seasons, he's obviously done well in the European campaigns also.

"So I think he will want to stay, for the next couple of years anyway. It's only going to be natural that he'll want to go down south and try one of the bigger clubs.

"I think it's a case of waiting until the time is right. He's still learning as he goes along, he's doing a great job at Rangers at the moment but I'm sure, at some stage, he will want to try it down in England."
