Steven Gerrard thrilled with Rangers matchwinner Alfredo Morelos as boss shares 'done what he does' praise

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was proud of his players as he heaped praise on them for leaving Easter Road with all three points.

The Ibrox side remain 23 points clear of Celtic at the top of the table and Gerrard insisted all the matters was leaving with all three points.

He refused to get caught up in the debate over Alfredo Morelos as he admitted he didn't have a great view of the incident involving the Rangers striker.

And he insists there were incidents on both sides that referee Kevin Clancy could have taken more of a look at but revealed he didn't want to surround the ref at full time for any explanations.

But he was delighted with Morelos for grabbing the winner and putting in the shift he did to ensure his side continued their great form.

He told Sky Sports: "I thought we had control of the game tonight over the pitch. The subs we added to the game were very important and Alfredo has done what he does, popped up with a crucial goal for us.

"We looked after him at the weekend after sixty minutes at the weekend because we knew he would have to put a right shift in for the team tonight. I thought he was really selfless in his work rate. Some of his hold up play was a bit mixed at times but just having him on the pitch he’s a real threat and causes problems. Again he’s come up with a real big goal for us.

"I’ve had no time to see that. I’ve been trying to get out as quick again.

"I always look at everything, there are a few incidents out there from the side I haven’t seen clearly, on both sides. But I didn’t want to surround the ref about them situations and just got on with it at the final whistle."

Rangers kept their 20th clean sheet of the season in the league and Gerrard admits that's something he 'loves' about their game this season.

He added: "It’s a really strong performance, it’s a tough place to go. Hibs are never going to make it easy for you.

"I knew it weren’t going to be pretty with the conditions and the pitch but the players have stood up and posted a really important performance for us.

"I love clean sheets, it’s always a positive to take away. We had some really important blocks in the first half, we defended crosses really well and we limited them to very few chances over the course of the game.

"When the team is confident it always helps coming in. We’re trying to manage Fil and Leon, they’re very important. We need four centre halves over the course of the season. The players are playing with belief and there’s real clarity about what we’re asking them to do and we’re demanding a lot from them.

"At the same time by doing that I have to praise them a lot as well and tonight they were outstanding as a man."
