Steven Gerrard slaughters Scott Brown for provoking his Rangers stars

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has ripped into Scott Brown and accused the Celtic skipper of provoking his players throughout the match.

Gerrard was incensed at full time after his side lost 2-1 thanks to James Forrest’s late goal in a thrilling clash at Celtic Park.

Odsonne Edouard gave the Hoops the lead with a brilliant goal before Rangers ' task was made seemingly impossible when Alfredo Morelos was sent off.

The Colombian lashed out at Brown after an off-the-ball clash and was flashed a red card for the fifth time this season.

But the drama didn’t end there.

Ryan Kent then levelled the score for Rangers before also being involved in a bust-up with Brown after

The ugly scenes continued after the final whistle as Andy Halliday took exception to Celtic's celebrations, sparking a melee on the pitch.

And Gerrard hit out at Brown, saying: "You're playing against a player who loves to antagonise. Morelos and Kent are both provoked

"Celtic fans have the right to celebrate but to do it right in your race, Halliday has the right to protect his own people. I'd probably have done the same."

"The guy who antagonised it all from the beginning deserves to be punished as well. When you're provoked, it's only fair that both sides get punished in my view.

"We've hurt ourselves badly this season with a lack of discipline. I've given my players the benefit of the doubt on too many times. Morelos has asked me for a chat, and that will be picked up."

Brown insisted the referee was left with little alternative but to send the striker off but played down his clash with Kent.

"He gave me an elbow, and you can't do that in modern-day football, the amount of cameras there are," the Celtic skipper added.

"It was all about us today. It's about our performance. We dictated play in the first half, and in the second we have to dig deep."
