Steven Gerrard slams misfiring Rangers attack as he claims Allan McGregor was 'stitched up' by teammates

Gutted Steven Gerrard launched a firm defence of Allan McGregor as he insisted the keeper's Rangers teammates let him down.

Ibrox veteran McGregor flapped at a cross allowing Craig Halkett to head in Hearts' late equaliser.

However, Gerrard refused to point the finger of blame at the stopper, claiming the attack were to blame for the late slip-up.

Alfredo Morelos was among a host of players to miss golden opportunities - with the Colombian firing wide of an open goal in the second half.

Gerrard told Rangers TV: "We have had, I don't know how many chances, 20-25 chances, but we haven't been ruthless enough and we paid at the end.

"That first half performance will take us where we want to get to.

"But second half I don't think we came out with that same intent or urgency. I thought we got a bit soft as the game went on.

"The game is about both boxes. At 1-0 we have had four, five, six chances, so we've almost stitched Greegsy up.

"The headlines will be Allan McGregor should have dealt with the cross, but I think we've stitched him up today because we should have scored the second, third and fourth goal to kill the game off before that moment comes."
