Steven Gerrard singles out the Rangers body on the line moment 'worth an extra two points'

Delighted Steven Gerrard insists Rangers now have the guts to grind out vital victories in the title race.

The Ibrox boss watched his side edge past Hibs on Saturday, keeping their adventurous visitors at bay after Ianis Hagi 's first half opener.

Rangers were forced to soak up the pressure and Gerrard singled out a stunning block from Borna Barisic from Jamie Gullan as being "worth an extra two points".

He's confident improved squad depth and experience has banished a past tendency to throw away points.

"We had to make sure we were really resilient," Gerrard told Rangers TV.

"We couldn't afford any mistakes because they're a dangerous team. Two points could've been taken away from us.

"Borna Barisic's block was fantastic and certainly worth the extra two points today.

"I'm delighted with the organisation of the team and what the players are giving in terms of application.

"Last season or the year before, that might've been a fixture that was taken away from us with an individual, players with a lack of experience or not having the bodies to come into the side to help us get over the line in situations like that.

"You can see at the end there, Barisic putting his body on the line, Greegs coming to catch to relieve a bit of pressure, people winning headers and competing.

"Certainly, in this league, you've got to compete and do the ugly bits first before you can show the quality and the lads are certainly doing that."
