Steven Gerrard shares his Rangers fan ban frustrations as he pays heartfelt tribute to Light Blues faithful

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard claims he's annoyed that Rangers fans have been told to stay away from their Europa League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen.

Fans that have booked up flights and accommodation for the Rhineland city were dealt a crushing blow last night as it was ruled that the game will be played behind closed doors due to the spread of coronavirus.

And their manager has given them the message to carry on with their trip to Leverkusen as planned - minus actually getting into the stadium.

Saluting the Rangers supporters' dedication, Gerrard said: "I'm not delighted about it, that's for sure.

"Football is all about atmospheres and supporters and people getting the opportunity to go follow their team, especially when you're at this stage of a competition.

"I know how excited our own supporters are. For both clubs it's not an ideal situation but it is what it is. We've all got to follow the experts in this situation and do what we're told.

"I'm no expert in terms of giving advice out in this situation. It's a very unique situation that I've never faced before. I'm sure the fans will do what they want to do.

"So I'm not really sure what message to give them really. If they decide they've already paid for flights and they want to go support the team in any shape or form, I'll go with that."

Thursday night's first leg at Ibrox will go ahead with a capacity crowd as planned.

Also in the Europa League , Getafe revealed they will not travel to Italy for their second leg at Inter Milan, citing an order from the Spanish government.

And Roma will not travel in the opposite direction for their clash with Sevilla "due to lack of authorisation from local authorities".
