Steven Gerrard sent off as Rangers boss left fizzing at Alfredo Morelos penalty call

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was sent off at half time after being left fizzing at a penalty decision.

Referee John Beaton showed Gerrard two yellow cards in the space of 30 seconds after he complained about a controversial first decision not to award the Ibrox side a penalty.

Alfredo Morelos went down under a challenge from Max Stryjek in the first half but Beaton decided it was a dive and showed a yellow card to the Colombian frontman.

Gerrard wasn't happy with that decision and approached Beaton at half time to complain but the whistler wasn't willing to listen to any complaints.

And he showed Gerrard an initial yellow card before showing a second as the Ibrox boss left the pitch, with Rangers players also unhappy at what happened.

It means he'll be unable to be on the sideline for the rest of the game and will face a touchline ban moving forward.

It appeared as though Morelos was caught by Stryjek during the first half and it should have been awarded as a penalty but Beaton disagreed.

The score remains 0-0 at the break.
