Steven Gerrard sends three-word message to Liverpool's Merseyside derby match winner Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones was the Liverpool hero against Everton on Sunday afternoon - and the goal would have been scored in exactly the way he had been dreaming ahead of the clash.

After the game, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard , who scored plenty of stunning goals during his Reds career, sent the young Scouser a message of congratulations.

Alongside a photograph of Jones on Instagram , Gerrard posted the caption: 'Love it kid'.

The three words were accompanied by a fire emoji and a love heart, with Jones responding with a 'raised hands' emoji and the word 'inspiration'.

Jones played under Gerrard while the current Rangers boss was employed as under-18s coach for the Reds.

Over the previous 12 months or so, Jones has taken over the under-23s captaincy and taken significant steps towards becoming a senior player.

He will hope to feature in round four, with the Reds set to find out their opponents in that game this evening when the draw takes place ahead of Arsenal's game with Leeds United.
