Steven Gerrard sends Rangers 'stay humble and safe' message after boss greets fans from dressing room window

Steven Gerrard insists Rangers players and fans must stay humble after moving within one point of the Premiership title.

The Ibrox side brushed St Mirren aside on Saturday to stand on the brink of a first championship since 2011.

Goals from Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi sealed a 3-0 win inspired by thousands of punters descending on Govan ahead of kick-off.

If Celtic fail to beat Dundee United on Sunday the trophy will head to Ibrox.

Masses of supporters have been condemned by Police Scotland and Holyrood for breaking lockdown rules and Gerrard believes it's tough for them to keep a lid on celebrations.

He greeted a lingering few from the Ibrox dressing room window but issued a reminder that health and safety remains paramount for everyone.

"It's important the players connected with the fans but also remembered what they had to do," Gerrard said.

"It's a big, monumental day for the club, this is probably the most important three points we've delivered.

"Obviously, we'll try and stay humble but it's tough because we're so close. I've just walked into a really happy dressing room as you can imagine because we know how close we are.

"It's important fans try to stay humble and safe because that's the priority - fans' safety and people's safety.

"Anything inside you or part of your heart can understand what these fans have been through, obviously safety is paramount at the moment but it's tough.

"It's tough because it has been an emotional three years for me and the fans have been through a lot in 10 years.

"You can understand it."
