Steven Gerrard sends Neil Lennon message as Rangers boss admits 'no surprise' at Celtic exit

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admits he's not shocked that Neil Lennon has left his role at Celtic as he wished his outgoing rival well.

The Ibrox manager found out the news this morning and insists he takes 'no satisfaction' from the exit.

Lennon resigned from the manager's role at Celtic Park on Wednesday morning after a miserable campaign that saw them crash out of Europe early and sit 18 points behind Rangers in the Premiership.

Gerrard's men have been in incredible form this season and Celtic have struggled to keep up with the pace and he admits that's why he's not surprised.

Pressure has been mounting on Lennon for much of the campaign and Gerrard said: "I can't say I'm surprised because of obviously what's been going on over there.

"But I obviously take no personal satisfaction from seeing that news (happen) to Neil or any other fellow manager that happens to. So I wish him well for the future.

"I only really found out about it this morning but obviously the focus for me is on the game tomorrow."

John Kennedy will take charge of Celtic on an interim basis, with Rangers set to take on their rivals next month.
