Steven Gerrard insists experienced duo Steven Davis and Allan McGregor are priceless as the Rangers boss claimed he would have to raid top Premier League clubs to find replacements for the pair.
Ibrox stopper McGregor won plaudits from the Govan faithful for his furious post-match interview following last weekend’s draw with Hamilton Accies in which he derided his teammates for their level of performance.
The 39-year-old has rolled back the years at times this term to sustain The Gers’ title march with a string of impressive saves, most notably in last month’s Old Firm derby win over Celtic.
Davis meanwhile has been a steady presence in the heart of Gerrard’s midfield, pulling the strings for the likes of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe to flourish in attack.
Davis and McGregor have won it all before at Ibrox, however have been on a mission this season to halt Celtic in their bid for ten in a row.
And The Gers’ boss is well aware of their value to his side, as he admitted he rates the pair as highly as Pep Guardiola’s boundless Manchester City stars.
“One thing is for sure, you can’t put a price on those players,” he said.
“I think we would have to be at Manchester City or Chelsea to replace those players like for like.
“They are two winners, irreplaceable in terms of the level of performance they have given to the team this year.
“They are both very different but very similar as well in terms of standards, routine and how they go about it.”
Gerrard added: “They are two of the most low-maintenance players I’ve ever seen in a dressing room and that goes for when I played and since I’ve been a coach.
“They go about their business very professionally.
“They come in, they do the work and they set the level for others to follow. They are a manager’s dream, the pair of them.”
