Steven Gerrard salutes Rangers recruitment team for landing 'phenomenal' talents

Steven Gerrard believes Rangers have attracted a "phenomenal" calibre of player this summer as he hailed the club's recruitment.

The Ibrox has added eight new signings to his squad and insists he wants one more before the window closes on August 31.

His acquisitions include £3million defender Filip Helander and highly-rated midfielder Joe Aribo from Charlton.

And Gerrard insists transfer business has fuelled belief the club can compete for honours this season.

"I want players here to excite the fans and we are trying to get the best players possible for what we have available," he told Rangers TV.

"I must pay respect to the recruitment department because I think the calibre of player we’ve attracted up here has been phenomenal.

"Everyone is pushing in every single department we can from the football side to make this team as good and as competitive as we can be.

"We’ll see how the next 12 months go but there’s a quiet confident and belief that we can do something special together.”

Bringing back Ryan Kent on a second loan spell from Liverpool remains Gerrard's priority, but he could be about to part with one winger in Daniel Candeias.

The Portuguese was left out of Rangers' Europa League squad and reports in Turkey claim a fee has been agreed for him to join Genclerbirligi.
