Steven Gerrard's stone-cold response to question on upcoming Liverpool clash

Steven Gerrard has delivered a stone-cold response to questions about of his Liverpool homecoming next weekend, shortly after his Aston Villa side beat Leicester 2-1 on Sunday.

Gerrard's fine start to life at Villa continued as he picked up his third win in his first four Premier League matches, with the one defeat coming against Manchester City.

Villa's form has dramatically improved since Gerrard left Rangers and headed for the Premier League, and the former Liverpool star will now travel to Anfield in what was expected to be an emotional reunion.

However, it appears that Gerrard isn't going to treat the occasion as initially anticipated.

Will Steven Gerrard one day manage Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Gerrard is less than a week away from returning to Anfield, a place where he spent 17 years as a player and left as one of Liverpool's greatest ever legends.

There has even been speculation that the Aston Villa job is the perfect stepping stone to the Liverpool role in the future, as fans fantasise about Gerrard gracing the dugout at Anfield.

For now though, the romanticism of the occasion has been completely disregarded, as Gerrard delivered a brutally cold response when being asked if there were any sentimental thoughts ahead of his trip to Anfield. which may shock Liverpool fans.

Gerrard told Sky Sports: "Nope. None at all. We just want to go there and try and win and take what we can.

"In terms of us, we're not competing with Liverpool in terms of where we're at at the minute. We'll certainly go there and give everything we've got.

"We took City right to the wire and I believe we should have got something from the game with that second half performance.

"We go [to Anfield] with confidence and belief with three wins out of four, we'll try and make it as difficult as possible."

Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool during his 17 years at the club, and scored an incredible 186 goals during that time, and also assisting 145 times for The Reds.

The midfielder won nine trophies at Liverpool, including an incredible individual effort in the Champions League, as many claim that Gerrard won the European crown on his own as he inspired a miraculous comeback against AC Milan in 2005.

The one trophy that did evade Gerrard though was the Premier League, and he went agonisingly close during the 2013/14 season but Liverpool missed out to Manchester City after a late collapse at the end of the campaign.

As a fan, Gerrard would have been delighted to see Liverpool finally lift the Premier League title two seasons ago, but the new Villa boss is clearly focusing on his managerial career for now, with little emotion shown for his former side.
