Rangers manager Steven Gerrard saluted Walter Smith for his guidance after equalling the Ibrox icon's mammoth haul of wins on the continent.
A 4-3 win at Royal Antwerp handed Gerrard his 23rd Europa League success, having come from behind twice before Borna Barisic's late penalty decided the game.
The thrilling victory ensured he tied Smith's record of European wins in the hotseat.
Although the current gaffer isn't too bothered about that, he paid tribute to the club legend who has been his "unofficial mentor" since arriving in the summer of 2018.
Gerrard said: "I've got nothing but respect for Walter Smith, Dick Advocaat and all the other managers that have gone before me.
"I don't deserve to be in the same breath or conversation as those managers because they've been successful Rangers managers, I haven't.
"We're really proud of our record in Europe as a group of staff and we're really proud of the team and what they've given. We want to finish this job off next week, match what we did last year and see what the draw brings to hopefully have the chance to go a step further than last year.
"When people talk about history and breaking records, it doesn't really interest me although I've got nothing but major respect for Walter Smith.
"He's been fantastic for me - he's been sort of an unofficial mentor, if you like.
"Any time I want to speak to him, he's been in to see me a couple of times further on before the lockdown came.
"I know he's always on the end of a phone any time I need him, and that experience is crucial for me."
