Steven Gerrard's Rangers press conference in full as Gary Holt's comment continues to rile Ibrox boss

Steven Gerrard has accused Gary Holt of double standards following Wednesday night's bruising Betfred Cup quarter-final.

Rangers booked a trip to Hampden with a 1-0 win over Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena but victory came at a cost.

Joe Aribo required 20 stitches in his forehead after being clattered by Rickie Lamie in the first half, leaving the midfielder facing several weeks on the sidelines.

Filip Helander then escaped a red for a heavy challenge on Lyndon Dykes, a decision which Holt later insisted referee Don Robertson admitted he got wrong.

But Gerrard feels the Livi boss was wrong to highlight that incident and ignore the clash involving Aribo as he maintained Lamie should have walked.

Asked what issue he had taken with Holt's comments, Gerrard replied: "Only the line where he said he thought Rangers got away with one. To me, that wasn't the right line.

"Gary Holt's entitled to say whatever he wants to say but I think when the referee watches it back he'll be disappointed not have dealt with it in a better way.

"I'm one who's up for competing, being tough and being fair. Sometimes I got things wrong on the football pitch, I'm not sitting here as an angel in that way at all.

"But, across the board, when it comes to head injuries of that severity we need to protect all the players in the league.

"That incident in any other league in the world is a red card. I'm not accusing Lamie of anything, I don't think he meant it but it was a red card."

The Rangers boss also reacted to Jurgen Klopp's revelation he wants Gerrard to replace him at the Liverpool, while previewing Saturday's clash with Aberdeen at Ibrox.
