Steven Gerrard's Rangers press conference in full as boss identifies Scottish football 'shockwave'

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is well aware of the threat Ross County carry after a result he reckons sent "shockwaves" through the Scottish Premiership.

John Hughes earned his best result yet as Staggies manager by trouncing Aberdeen 4-1 last weekend.

That's given Gerrard plenty of food for thought as he takes on the Dingwall boss on Saturday at Ibrox, with a chance to extend his side's league advantage over Celtic to 23 points.

And he's adamant there will be no complacency from the table-toppers, who have Ryan Jack finally available for selection as they hope to get back to winning ways after a 1-1 draw at Motherwell.

Gerrard said: "John's got a real big knowledge, especially up here in Scotland, he knows his players and he's a manager that likes to play his football in the right way.

"And he's certainly gone into Ross County and made a difference.

"It was a fantastic result away to Aberdeen, it probably sent shockwaves through the league, if you like.

"They also had a big win away at Hibs not too long ago as well so this is a team that is very capable on their day, they have had mixed results of late and they're in a position in the league where I know they're going to be trying to improve on that.

"This is a challenge we very much respect, but the focus and the preparation has been mainly on ourselves, trying to be the best version of us, trying to focus on where we went right and wrong last week and putting that right over the course of 90 minutes.

"We're looking to put in a strong home performance and take maximum points."

Gerrard also singled out South African midfielder Bongani Zungu for praise, insisting the October arrival has helped keep key men fit such as Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo in a period when Jack and Scott Arfield have been unavailable through injury.

He added: "It's been a fantastic boost to have Zungu as well, who has offloaded some of those players at certain key times.

"He's helped us in fixtures to get us over the line and really brought his stamp on things.

"We've been really pleased with his contribution as well."
