Steven Gerrard's Rangers cup record 'not good enough' as Peter Lovenkrands makes title celebrations admission

Rangers hero Peter Lovenkrands reckons Steven Gerrard 's cup record isn't good enough after the latest Scottish Cup failure.

Rangers were stunned as his troops were bundled out of the Scottish Cup by St Johnstone on a dramatic night at Ibrox.

Gutted boss Gerrard admitted his one out of nine domestic trophy haul isn't good enough for the Glasgow giants after the full-time whistle.

Lovenkrands, who wrote himself into fan folklore with his Scottish Cup winning goal against Celtic in 2002, doubled down on the verdict.

He told Sky Sports : "I agree with Steven Gerrard to a point, it's not good enough for a size of club that Rangers is.

"Trophies is what we are all about and to not win a cup in so long; yes we won the league this season but to not win the cup this season is a huge disappointment.

"Especially after knocking Celtic out in the previous game, you are the strong favourite to go on and win it. To get knocked out before the semi-final is a huge disappointment and not where they want to be."

During his post-match analysis Gerrard played down the impact of the Premiership win and celebrations on their recent form.

However, Lovenkrands does believe the first top flight title win in a decade played a factor in the shock exit.

He added: "I understand why he is coming out and saying that, but I do think it can play a wee bit of a factor.

"I think it was a sense of relief for the staff and the players to go and get that league trophy that they have been waiting so long for, and had done so fantastically to get.

"I think it may have taken the edge off. Yes of course, you then prioritise the cup competitions from that, but it's not easy to get your mind back into it.

"I think there are probably other things factoring into it, its not just down to celebrations.

"They'll have been trying to get the trophy, but they will just have to go again next season."
